WHAT’S THE STORY?

Rather than identify with a single instrument, Maxton Hunter's creative weapon of choice is the studio itself.

Growing up on the historic Rancho Dos Pueblos just north of Goleta, California, the imagination ran free with no limitations, ultimately leading him to music. Dressed to the nines while doing his best Angus Young impersonation, a 9-year-old Hunter would self-host weekly concerts in his family’s living room. After getting discovering classic ‘60s records just 2 years later – most memorably The Beatles’ Rubber Soul, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan and The Who Sings My Generation – the idea of writing originals immediately piqued his interest.

As a solo artist, Hunter has self-produced various EPs spanning psychedelia, indie pop, folk-rock and ambient soundscapes, as heard on A Trance By The Sea, Paradise Syndrome, Windmills Of My Imagination and A Trance In The Valley.

When on stage, you’ll find Hunter behind his loyal Ludwig performing with singer-songwriter Evan Blix (formerly Glenn Annie), soul-blues quartet East Valley Road, retro outfit The Caverns, western surf-rock trio Bandit Royale and playing sitar for Ryan Pollie’s ambient ensemble Academy of Light. Past collaborations include fronting the experimental psych-rock duo The Shorelines, contributing guitar parts for In The Mix Studios’ sample pack Awaken and recording with indie artists Al Bert, Angel Davison, Brandi Rose, Cecilia James, India Cunningham, Lucy Branch, Maxim Adams, Swaye and Third Ward.

Previously working for the artist advocacy company Ari’s Take, Hunter notably shepherded marketing efforts for the #1 bestseller How to Make It in the New Music Business (Third Edition) and co-produced the Webby Award-winning New Music Business Podcast – even earning praise from Spotify and Variety as one of the best music industry podcasts. For the team’s debut SXSW showcase, he was also a stagehand and drum tech for acts such as Zella Day, Victoria Canal, Indigo de Souza, Annabel Lee.

Now affiliated with ParSonics Studio, Hunter balances his time overseeing branding, social media, and the official Alan Parsons archive.
